| How To Adopt A Beagle | |
| Adoption Criteria | |
| We need to know some
things about you. Do you have a fenced yard ?(not a requirement but helpful) What
pets, if any, do you have now and/or have owned before ? Have you learned about the beagle as a breed ? Are there kids in the a family ? How old ? Are you willing to adopt a "special needs" beagle ? This gives you an idea. |
|
| Some Requirements | |
| You must be at least
18 years old to adopt a beagle. Beagles adopted from Bluebonnet are to be companion animals and family members. They are to be given proper nourishment, medical care and love. All male and female beagles must be neutered or spayed. Beagles cannot be adopted as gifts. Adopted beagles are to have ID tags, rabies and locally required license tags. Other animals already in the family must be up to date on shots. You must keep the beagle for at least 3 weeks to give it a chance to adapt. If you surrender your adopted beagle for any reason it must come back to us still up to date on shots and not requiring medical attention due to to neglect or abuse. |

| Adoption Fee | |
| There is an adoption fee, currently at $200.00 FOR ADULTS AND $250. 00 FOR PUPPIES. ADOPTION FEE FOR SPECIAL NEEDS BEAGLES IS $150.00 This is a bargain as the fee goes for spay/neuter, shots, boarding and feeding, heartworm test and fecal test and all other medical treatment often including heartworm treatment. (In the case of pups, it includes shots as required until the time of adoption and a certificate for spay/neuter at the appropriate age.) The adoption fee does not come close to covering the actual expense to rescue. | |
| Advantages of Adopting | |
| Your beagle comes to you with all shots and spayed/neutered. Your beagle is probably crate trained and well on it's way to being housebroken. With the exception of the puppies, your beagle is past the chewing stage saving you plenty of money on shoes, pantyhose etc. | |
| Some Questions to Ask Yourself | |
| Does everyone in my household agree with
adopting a pet? Bringing a companion animal into your home requires the commitment and cooperation of the entire family. Beagle Rescue discourages the practice of "surprising" someone with the gift of a living creature. Remember, too, that children cannot be considered the primary care-giver for the pet. Ultimately, it is the parent or adult guardian who must be responsible for the well-being of the animal. Am
I Prepared to Handle the Problems ? Can I afford a pet? Owning a pet requires a financial investment as well as an emotional one. Your pet will need food, annual vaccinations, toys, grooming supplies, regular veterinary treatment, flea & tick prevention, and much more. You also need to consider the expenses if your pet gets sick. The total annual cost for your pet may be more than $500 per year! Why do I want a pet? This may seem like an obvious question, but please seriously consider why you wish to adopt a pet before visiting our shelter. Is it because the children are crying for a dog, and you want to pacify them? Is it because a friend just adopted a dog, and it looks like fun? Make sure that you and your family are prepared to make a serious, lifetime commitment to the animal you choose. Remember, this commitment may last 15 years or more! What kind of lifestyle do I lead? |
